Layers of Laminate and the AC Ratings
The Abrasion Class (AC RATING) are classed into five different levels. These ratings go from AC1 to AC5. For commercial use products you would use AC4 and AC5 rated laminate floors. For residential class projects you would use a product AC1 to AC3 ratings but you can always install higher rating levels if you wish to. The lower the rating the lower the traffic the floor is expected to endure so AC1 is usually appropriate to bedrooms and closets due to low foot traffic. AC2 is put in areas where there is more foot traffic such as living area or dining rooms and AC3 is for high traffic areas like entryways, kitchens, and it can even be used in light commercial spaces. AC4 is rated for smaller businesses with less foot traffic unlike AC5 which is rated for the highest amount of traffic in commercial settings.

Laminate Flooring is made of multiple layers: The wear layer is the top layer which is very durable and very difficult to damage. Once this layer is damaged that piece will need to be replaced as there is no way to repair them. Luckily, these boards are usually easy to replace by a professional. The next layer is the design or decorative layer. The higher the quality of the product the more the laminate will look like actual wood or stone. They are made of melamine which is a hard plastic used to cover material. The third layer is that wood based fiber that in the lamination process is used to attach the other layers. This layer is used to provide strength and durability to your floors for many years down the road. The final layer is the layer made of melamine which is the support for your floors. This layer ensures the planks are level and balanced. It doesn't allow your floor to warp.
